FACING THE CHALLENGE: Metro Manila Film Festival 2008

Cinemas all over the country opened with the much-anticipated Metro Manila Film Festival last December 25, 2008. Float parades within the metropolis prior to its opening date became one of its attractions for cinema goers. Stars from various studio networks and big studios of the film industry marched up in their respective floats to promote their most formulaic movie ever produced.

Three films were named the top three best pictures for the year by its festival jurors. "Baler" was Viva films entry and this year's first best picture. Star Cinema's word-conjugation sequel "Ang Tanging Ina Ninyong Lahat" starred in by Ai-Ai De las Alas and directed by Wenn Deramas bagged the second best. Twenty years after, release from Octoarts films, "Iskul Bukol" had its third best picture with of course the established Pinoy three stooges - Tito, Vic and Joey.

Iza Calzado in GMA's "Obra"

She is a young actress which has the features of a classic Filipina beauty. Iza Calzado shows that she has the talent and the versatility to stay in this business.

She is now following the footsteps of other GMA artist who was been featured in a month-long anthology of GMA 7S "Obra" like Katrina Halili, JC de Vera and Sunshine Dizon.

Iza will be doing four different roles in four episodes for this month of November: "Sanib," "Beauty Queen," "Boksingera," and "Stella 45."

Metro Manila TV Ratings (October 31- November 3 '08) GMA's "24 Oras" shakes the primetime block

With the "Euro Generals issue", "Joc-Joc Bolante Fertilizer scam", "US Election season" and many more, GMA's newscast 24 Oras grabs the top spot in the primetime block putting drama and fantasy series behind.

"24 Oras" is tied in the 2nd pot last Oct. 31 with 32.8 percent rating and reign as the no.1 show in primetime last November 3 with 34.6 percent rating.

This is based on the overnight ratings conducted by AGB Nielsen Philippines among Mega Manila households.

Platinum for Bamboo's "Tomorrow Becomes Yesterday" album

More than a month after its release, Pinoy band Bamboo's fourth album "Tomorrow Becomes Yesterday" under EMI Philippines reached Platinum selling more than 30,000 copies.

The band explained that they want their songs to be something poetic and could mean a lot of things to other people.

Their first single Kailan is currently hitting the airwaves and topping the hit charts.

This 10-track of all-original album was recorded for two months at Tracks Studio in Pasig.

Willie Revillame's home was robbed, disappointed on the subdivision's security

No body is safe even you are living in a exclusive subdivision. This is what happened to Wowowee host Willie Revillame on his house in Corinthian Hills, Quezon City. He lost an estimate of P3 million worth of watches, jewelry and other items.

Reportedly, robbers barged into one of the bathroom windows of Revillames house. Revillame and members of his household were on vacation at the time of the break-in.

He was surprised on how the thief found out where he kept the duplicate keys for his cars and vault. Revillame said only his maids know the hiding place for the duplicate keys. He said he is still considering if the robbing incident was an inside job.

In a interview, he is more disappointed on the security of the subdivisions (Corinthian Hills) that the robbery. Residents of the said subdivision are paying a large amount of money but still their a big possibility that your lives will be threaten.

Hayden Panettiere's "Save The Whales Again" at the U.S. Capitol

After her speaking engagement at the American University, Hayden Panettiere again lead the campaign in promoting "Save The Whales Again" at the U.S. Capitol building.

The "Heroes" star led hundreds of participants in an aerial art event forming a giant human pilot whale beside the message "VOTE" and and she also receives an award from the Mayor of Washington DC.

It also commemorates the one-year anniversary of Haydens actions in Taiji, Japan.

Ashley Tisdale is a sparkling babe

Glittering at the red carpet, Ashley Tisdale charmed the crowd with her smile as she arrives for the premiere of High School Musical 3: Senior Year at the Auditorium Parco della Musica during the 3rd Rome International Film Festival.

The 23-year-old Disney star is definitely fabulous in her silver Jenny Packham minidress. Joining her in the red carpet is her co-star Corbin Bleu and director Kenny Ortega.
